Frequently Asked Questions

General

What does Honorbound do?
We help veterans and service members navigate complex military and VA processes, including VA disability claims, Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC), Army Review Boards Agency (ARBA) actions, administrative separation boards, and limited legal support for GOMORs and investigations. We're here to make sure you don’t go through it alone.

Who do you serve?
We serve veterans and active-duty service members across all branches. Whether you're just starting the VA process or dealing with a challenging administrative action, we’re here to help.

Are your services available nationwide?
Yes. We serve clients across the U.S. and internationally, including active duty members, reservists, retirees, and veterans living abroad.

Do you charge for your services?
For most services—like VA disability claims—we work on a success-based fee. That means you only pay if we secure a positive outcome. For legal support or special board actions, we’ll clearly outline any flat fees before we get started.

How do I get started?
Start with a free 15-minute consultation. We’ll talk about your background, your goals, and whether we’re the right fit to help you move forward.

VA Disability Claims

Can you help with my initial VA claim?
Due to VA regulations, we’re not allowed to assist with initial claims—unless it’s part of an appeal. That said, we’re here to support you fully if you need to file an appeal or submit additional claims down the road.

Can you help if I’ve already filed a claim or been denied?
Yes. We frequently work with veterans who need help appealing decisions or building a stronger case for an increased rating.

Can you help with PTSD, MST, or complex claims?
Yes. We frequently assist with PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), and other complex claims that require sensitive handling and thorough supporting documentation.

What does the VA claim process look like?
We start with a 1-hour intake call, review your full medical and service history, build your packet, and walk you through it before submitting it to the VA. After submission, we monitor for updates and guide you on any necessary follow-ups or appeals.

CRSC Applications

What is CRSC, and can I get it if I already receive VA disability?
CRSC (Combat-Related Special Compensation) is a tax-free benefit for combat-related disabilities. Even if you already receive VA compensation, CRSC can restore some or all of the retired pay that was offset. We help determine eligibility and prepare a strong application on your behalf.

What’s the difference between CRSC and CRDP?
CRSC is a tax-free benefit for retirees with combat-related disabilities. CRDP (Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay) restores your full military retirement pay if you have a VA rating of 50% or more but is taxable. You can only receive one at a time, and we can help you determine which is more financially beneficial.

Can I switch between CRSC and CRDP?
Yes, eligible retirees can switch during the DoD’s annual open season. We can guide you through the process.

Can you help with a CRSC denial or appeal?
Absolutely. If you’ve been denied, we can review your decision and build a stronger case for appeal.

Boards of Review & Record Corrections

What types of Board actions do you handle?
We assist with the Army Review Boards Agency (ARBA), Air Force Discharge Review Board (AFDRB), Board for Correction of Military Records (BCMR), and others. Services include discharge upgrades, removal of adverse actions, and corrections to DD-214s or official records.

Can you help me upgrade my discharge or correct my military records?
Yes. We assist with actions like discharge upgrades or correcting errors in your service record. We’ll help you build a compelling narrative and gather the right evidence to support your case.

Can I upgrade my discharge due to PTSD or MST?
Absolutely. The DoD has issued guidance requiring boards to give “liberal consideration” to cases involving PTSD, MST, or TBI. We are experienced in preparing these claims.

How long does a discharge upgrade take?
The process can take 6–12 months or longer, depending on the complexity of your case and the board’s workload. We’ll stay in touch throughout and prepare you for what to expect.

Administrative Separation Boards

What if I’m facing an admin separation board?
We help you prepare a strong defense, gather evidence, and understand your rights throughout the process. Our goal is to give you the best chance to protect your military career and future benefits.

Can I fight an administrative separation?
Yes. Depending on your situation, you may be able to challenge the board’s recommendation. We’ll work with you to build a response that clearly tells your side of the story.

Can you represent me at an Administrative Separation Board?
Yes. We offer full representation during separation boards, including preparing your case, witness statements, legal strategy, and in-person or virtual appearance (if applicable).

Limited Legal Support: Letters of Reprimand & Admin Investigations

Do you help with letters of reprimand or command investigations?
Yes. We offer limited legal support to help you draft rebuttals and responses to letters of reprimand and administrative investigations. A clear, well-written rebuttal can make a big difference in your outcome.
